This weekend I’m heading to London to spend some time with friends. Needless to say I’m really excited!
But then it dawns on me…I have to pack for this trip.
Packing for holidays or even just overnight stays used to be something I absolutely hated. How would I know if these things are going to be useful? What will I be doing while I’m away? What will I actually need?
These questions and more used to end in one result: a massively over packed and bursting at the seams bag which I’d then have to lug round with me all day. I’d always end up with way more than I actually needed, and usually would only wear around 50% of what I’d packed. Sound familiar?
However since I discovered the idea of Capsule Wardrobes and embraced a more minimalist lifestyle, this seems to be one area that has followed suit and I now no longer dread packing. In fact, the last 2 years I have only taken a weekend sized bag away with me on our two summer trips to Italy. One a week long, the other 10 days. A small bag worked for both.
Whenever I go away somewhere, I like to have a quick check of the weather. This will help me prioritise types of clothing I’m going to need.
Secondly, activities. (So much room for activities!) What is the purpose of my trip? City break or countryside retreat? Sightseeing or hiking?
And finally, how long am I going for?
In total I’m actually going to be away from home for 5 days, but as the first day and a half are work related, I’m not including those in my planning and packing. My work uniform will take care of that. (And by default, my travel to London too).
So, that leaves us with Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
A quick check of the weather reveals lows of 4 degrees to highs of 13 degrees. No rain but some cloud and sunshine.
With that in mind, here’s what I’m taking with me!
Very monochromatic, huh?
Well, I just feel as though this will work. I’ve got all bases covered with this selection of pieces, from lounging at my friends house to going out one evening for cocktails to a full day of being out and about sightseeing.
What do you think? Too much? Not enough?
All of these pieces fit comfortably into my carry-on sized bag. I’ll wear my jacket to travel so that’s taken care of.
Any toiletries and make up fit into the two patterned bags in the bottom left corner. I just got these and I absolutely love them! Such pretty designs and for me, they’re the perfect size since I have minimal make up and skincare products anyway.
So, now the packing side of things is taken care of, let’s get on with the outfits!
And of course I have my small black saddle bag with me, and my trusty fedora for whichever day is a bad hair day!
What do you think of my packing list and outfits? Is it something you do when you go away too? I’d love to hear your experiences! 🙂
Let the weekend begin!
