As the #fall10x10 challenge has now come to an end, I thought I’d share my thoughts and feelings on how this challenge has gone for me this time around.
The fall 10×10 has actually been the fourth time I’ve joined in! I can’t believe it! There’s always such a supportive and encouraging community around the challenge which is what makes me go back to it time and time again.
For this time around, I approached the challenge a little differently. In the past I’ve timed my 10×10 so that I’m off work, or shared outfits that I’ve worn in the evenings and weekends as opposed to all day every day for the full 10 days. With recently starting a new, office based job, I took this opportunity to share with you what I’ve been wearing for this new environment, and how I’m styling older pieces in a more office appropriate way.
Thanks to this challenge I’ve been able to find out what I really enjoy wearing for work, where the holes in my office capsule are and what pieces I’m lacking to complete my aim – a tight year round work-wear capsule to sit alongside my own more casual wardrobe.
Here’s the 10 pieces I chose:
Originally I’d included a short blush pink jumper which I’d pulled from storage, however by the last day I still hadn’t worn it so swapped it out for the white blouse. Although I loved the jumper, it just didn’t feel smart enough for work, however it shall remain a favourite in my weekend wardrobe.
Before we jump in to the recap, here’s a quick reminder of the outfits I wore, and shared (almost!) daily over on Instagram!
So, let’s get stuck into the nitty gritty details, shall we?
1. Why did you do the challenge?
For me, this time around was all about taking the pressure off and sharing outfits that I’d actually worn all day each day for the duration of the challenge. In the past, I’ve sometimes felt I’ve cheated a little, occasionally sharing outfits that I’ve only worn for a matter of hours, or at the weekend as opposed to the exact day I’ve posted them. Pair that with my recent career change, and I felt that this 10×10 challenge was the perfect opportunity to relax a little, explore the outfits I was wearing for work, and have fun with it! After all, why take part in something if you’re not enjoying it? If I discover a new favourite outfit along the way, bonus!
2. Did the clothes work for the weather/activities you had planned?
Yes. Even though the temperatures are rapidly dropping as we fast approach November, I’m cosy and warm inside the office. I wore my jacket most days on the way to work, but once inside it wasn’t needed. I didn’t really need to think about covering activities, as I said I wore these outfits to the office, so anything else that went on outside of work I usually changed anyway!
3. Did you wear any items that you didn’t include in the 10 pieces?
I wore my jacket most days to work, trainers on the odd occasion to walk the dog straight after work, and of course as usual all lounge wear etc. carries on as normal. I took the weekends off from the challenge so wore other clothes then as well.
4. What did you learn about your professional style?
I’m not the smartest of dressers! I love a good pair of jeans, t-shirt and a big cosy jumper. So applying my style to office wear has been something I’ve found difficult. Looking back on this challenge, I can safely say that I love the ease of a simple dress for work, and that a good pair of smart trousers and blazer/jacket can smarten up a simple t-shirt.
5. Did you discover any new outfits?
Outfit 7. Whenever I’ve worn this skirt in the past, I’ve always tucked the top in. But with this one, leaving the boxy shape of the top to fall freely over the skirt felt a lot better! A new favourite, for sure.
6. What was your favourite outfit?
2, 6, 7 & 9. I love them all for different reasons. The dress is a super easy and quick way to look smart and professional, while still keeping an element of fun in the quirky print. Outfit 6 is a prime example of dressing up a basic t-shirt for the office, 7 was a whole new silhouette I discovered I love and 9 just felt a lot like me! With the addition of a fancier skirt, I felt I could easily wear this casual striped top and it still be suitable for work.
7. How did laundry change?
It didn’t. I always do work washes at the weekends, and luckily in between there were no spills to work out!
8. What are you taking away from this challenge?
I feel comfortable that my office capsule is taking shape. From doing this challenge I’ve been able to pick out where the holes are, and what I need to add to make a perfectly functional, mini year round capsule.
So there we have it! I can’t believe another 10×10 challenge has come and gone already. Just want to say a massive thank you to Lee of Style Bee and Caroline of Unfancy for hosting such a wonderful challenge, and the fabulous #10x10friends community for continued love and support.
If you’ve taken part in the fall 10×10 challenge, please share in the comments how it went for you! Was it your first challenge? Or your fifth? I’d love to hear from you!
