Hello, and happy Saturday!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here and initially I felt super guilty about it. As time went on it started to seem like more and more of a chore rather than something I was going to enjoy. I felt really uninspired and uninterested. So I took some more time away and waited until I was excited to share things with you all again. The 10×10 challenges just have a way of stirring up inspiration and motivation, so here I am, happy to be back and excited to share some Spring Capsule thoughts with you.
But first! Let’s take a look back at the recently completed Spring 10×10. As usual hosted by the ever wonderful Caroline of Un-Fancy and Lee of Style Bee, this time around they were joined by a guest co-host, Elizabeth Suzann. Having been introduced to this brand through the 10×10 challenges and the inspiring participants, I was excited to see what Liz put together. I love the silhouettes and colours she uses in her designs, which have certainly been an inspiration to me and prompted me to make my very first me-made crop linen vest last summer! So a massive thank you to these three lovely ladies for reuniting the 10×10 community for another Spring challenge!
If you don’t follow me on Instagram, here’s a look at the 10 items I included this time around:
Clockwise from top left:
Converse / Boots (old) / Black Jeans / Straight Jeans / Jumper (old) / Breton Top (similar) / Band tee (old) / Boho Top (old) / Midi Dress / Cardigan
And the outfits I made from them:
What was your goal for the Spring 10×10?
To have fun! I also used this 10×10 challenge as a bit of a practise run for packing for a week long trip to Cornwall. Discovering different ways to wear that new midi dress would have been a bonus!
Did you achieve your goals?
I was certainly more relaxed than ever before with this challenge. I skipped days, wore some of the outfits for only a couple of hours at a time and towards the end when the challenge ran into the Cornwall trip, I even swapped a pair of shoes! As shown, I’d planned to wear my Converse and take these with me for the trip, however at the last minute I changed my mind due to the weather forecast looking pretty wet, I decided a darker trainer would be a better option. And I’m forgiving myself for it! The goal for these challenges is always to have fun and create outfits I love, so I’m definitely not going to be hard on myself again.
What did you learn about your personal style?
That I love the comfy option. Always. But also that it’s good to try something new and step out of my comfort zone every now and again. As you know I’m definitely a jeans and t-shirt girl, so I think when I share my final Spring capsule wardrobe there will be a few surprises in there!
Were there any pieces that you would now consider a mistake?
Not really. It might have been nice to include a different silhouette on the bottom, as the two pairs of jeans I included are exactly the same. However it’s made me realise I need an alternative option for Spring and Summer, so every cloud.
Did the items work for the weather?
For the most part, yes. I already mentioned I swapped my white converse for the last couple of days due to forecast of rain, but up until then they were working fine. My cardigan was great for layering up on cooler days, and I always leave myself the option to add a coat or jacket should I need it (damn British Spring weather!).
What was your favourite outfit?
Hmm, a close one to call. I loved outfit 6 for a comfortable and easy everyday look, plus it can work for warm and cool due to the cardigan for layering. The floral midi dress is a new favourite of mine, I love it worn on it’s own simply belted to add definition, and I’d love to explore more ways to style this piece. The boho blouse also works well with the blue denim, and I think would be great with tan accessories going into the Summer months.
Did you wear anything else?
Of course. I kept my workwear separate again this challenge, and as always loungewear, gym wear etc. are not included!
Were there any combinations you didn’t try?
I missed out on pairing the cream jumper with the blue jeans, however I did wear this look the following week so all worked out OK! I still want to try the dress over jeans again as well.
What was your favourite part of the challenge?
I feel like I say this every time, but I just love the community built around this challenge. Everyone is so inspirational and supportive at the same time, and it feels fantastic to be a part of it. So thank you!
I’d love to hear your experiences from the 10×10 challenge? Was this your first challenge or are you a seasoned expert? Are you yet to join a challenge, and if so, why? How did the Spring 10×10 work out for you? Let me know!
